The Nantucket Cottage Hospital community came together on July 1st for a groundbreaking ceremony for the island’s new hospital.
The building site is in the shadow of the current 1957 hospital, which will remain operational during construction. The new two-story, 106,000-square-foot facility will include an expanded emergency department, increasing in size from 4,400 square feet to 7,340 square feet. The facility will also include private treatment rooms, a “racetrack” layout, observation rooms that convert for the care of behavioral health patients, and a room for OB/GYN service.
The new hospital, slated to be complete in late 2018, will also feature an expanded interventional services area that includes two operating rooms, five private infusion bays, and a dialysis center.
